The Artificial Intelligence Center, “Inception” from “G42”, launches the largest linguistic model of the highest quality Arabic language in the world.

Inception, the artificial intelligence center of G42, has unveiled the open-source version of the GES model, which is touted as the world’s highest-quality large language model for the Arabic language. GES, named after the highest summit in the United Arab Emirates, is based on a vast dataset containing 395 billion symbols in Arabic and English and is built upon 13 billion parameters. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the field of artificial intelligence in the Arab world. Here’s a detailed look at the critical aspects of this development:

1. High-Quality Language Model:

  • GES is positioned as the highest-quality large language model for the Arabic language globally. It’s based on extensive training data, making it a powerful tool for various applications in Arabic.

2. Collaboration:

  • The GES model’s development resulted from a collaboration between Inception, the Mohammed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), and Cerebras Systems. This partnership underscores the commitment to advancing AI capabilities and research.

3. Supercomputer Training:

  • The GES model was trained using Condor Galaxy, an AI supercomputer boasting multi-exaflops computing power (equivalent to one million trillion calculations per second). This cutting-edge technology significantly contributed to the model’s development.

4. Open Source Approach:

  • Inception has adopted an open-source approach to GES to encourage collaboration and innovation within the scientific and academic communities. It’s a pivotal step in advancing AI capabilities in the Arabic language.

5. Academic Partnerships:

  • Inception has partnered with academic institutions, including Carnegie Mellon University, the French Polytechnic School, and others, to make GES available for testing. This collaboration facilitates the development of current and future Arabic language models.

6. Government and Industry Adoption:

  • Several UAE authorities and institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Etihad Airways, and others, will leverage the GES model to enhance their operations and gain valuable insights.

7. Ongoing Improvement:

  • Inception and MBZUAI will continue to enhance and expand the GES model to meet the evolving needs of its user community, ensuring its continued relevance and effectiveness.

8. Availability and Accessibility:

  • The GES model is available for download from the Hugging Face website, making it accessible to developers and researchers. Users can also access the model online by registering via the GEIS website.

GES is a testament to the commitment to advancing artificial intelligence in Arabic, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering international cooperation in AI research. Its open-source nature encourages collaboration and innovation, positioning it as a valuable resource for developers, researchers, and organizations in the Arab world and beyond. The availability of GES marks a significant step toward harnessing the full potential of AI in Arabic, benefiting over 400 million Arabic speakers worldwide.
